| The volute geometry of centrifugal pumps plays a central role in pressure recovery, hydraulic performance, radial-load balance and mechanical stability. Although volute design has been widely investigated, comparatively few studies have evaluated hydraulic performance and steady casing loads simultaneously for a reverse-engineered industrial pump under experimentally validated conditions. In this work, an API 610 OH2-type centrifugal pump was reverse-engineered using high-precision three-dimensional laser scanning. Steady CFD simulations were performed in ANSYS CFX using the SST turbulence model for two casing concepts: the original double-volute configuration and a redesigned single-volute configuration with the same impeller. The numerical predictions were validated against experimental performance data and quantified using root mean square error (RMSE) and mean absolute error (MAE). Compared with the single-volute model, the double-volute configuration reduced the RMSE by approximately 5% for head, 10% for hydraulic power and 2.8% for hydraulic efficiency; the corresponding MAE values decreased by 11.7%, 6.4% and 7.8%, respectively. The double-volute casing also reduced the variation range of the dominant X-direction force by approximately 72% and the Y-direction moment range by approximately 78.5%, indicating improved hydraulic load balance. The peak turbulent kinetic energy decreased from about 12 m²/s² in the single-volute case to about 3.5 m²/s² in the double-volute case. The results show that the double-volute configuration provides a more balanced internal flow field and a closer representation of the experimentally measured performance for the investigated OH2 pump. | ||
