| چکیده | ||
| Landfill sites are significant sources of greenhouse gases (GHG) that may affect surrounding ecosystems, particularly when located close to sensitive forest environments. This study evaluates the ecological impacts of landfill gas dispersion on habitat quality in the Hyrcanian forests of Northern Iran, focusing on the Saravan landfill. A combined Source-Transport-Impact framework was applied by integrating field-based emission monitoring, atmospheric dispersion modeling (AERMOD), and habitat quality assessment (InVEST). Field surveys were conducted at 25 gas venting points and 12 surface locations using the static flux chamber method. Gas samples were analyzed using gas chromatography (Agilent 7890A) with flame ionization and thermal conductivity detectors to determine the methane (CH₄) and carbon dioxide (CO₂) concentrations. The measured data provided input parameters for the AERMOD dispersion model. Spatial concentration patterns were incorporated as environmental pressure layers in the InVEST Habitat Quality model. Results indicated substantial variability in gas concentrations, with methane ranging from several thousand to several hundred thousand ppm. Dispersion modeling revealed spatial gradients of gas exposure extending into adjacent forest areas. Integration of dispersion outputs into the habitat quality model indicated that areas closer to the landfill and along prevailing wind directions experienced higher levels of habitat degradation. The combined modeling approach highlights the spatial relationship between landfill gas emissions and habitat quality patterns in the Hyrcanian forest landscape. The proposed framework demonstrates how integrating emission measurements, dispersion modeling, and ecological assessment can support environmental impact evaluation and inform management strategies for landfills beside ecologically sensitive forests. | ||
