| This article presents a comprehensive assessment of the current state of organic horticulture in the Republic of Kazakhstan, identifies key constraints to its development, and substantiates priority areas for further growth. The study is based on official statistical data from the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Bureau of National Statistics for 2015–2024, international analytical reports from FiBL/IFOAM (The World of Organic Agriculture, 2020–2024), regulatory documents of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the European Union (Regulation (EU) 2018/848), and current scientific publications on organic breeding of fruit crops and grapes. The following methods are used: time series analysis, calculation of average annual growth rates, index assessment of structural changes, correlation analysis of the dependence of yield on agroclimatic factors, SWOT analysis, and scenario forecasting of the organic segment development until 2030. It has been established that organic agriculture in Kazakhstan is characterized by fluctuating dynamics in the area of certified land: from a peak of over 300,000 hectares in 2019, it declined to approximately 115,000 hectares in 2020, and by 2024, the area once again exceeded 300,000 hectares. The structure of organic crop production remains predominantly export-oriented (grain and oilseed crops), while the share of organic fruit and berry plantings is extremely small and is accompanied by a lack of systematic statistics on area, yield, and marketing channels. The main barriers to the development of organic horticulture include institutional (insufficient certification infrastructure and specialized organic nurseries), technological (limited access to biological control agents and adaptive agricultural technologies), and economic (high transition costs, limited domestic market capacity). It is substantiated that the strategic directions are the creation of a network of certified organic nurseries, the introduction of bio-based plant protection, the development of export-oriented clusters, as well as the application of the principles of organic selection and sustainable varieties for apple trees and grapes, considering the regional specifics of the Almaty and Turkestan regions. | ||
